POUND ARTS LAUNCHES NEW SERIES OF EVENTS IN CORSHAM: SENSEABILITY
POSTED: 30/05/2014 10:35:56
TUESDAY 10 – SATURDAY 14 JUNE
Writer Fay Weldon headlines festival exploring inclusion in the arts and community
in partnership with Bath Spa University

Novelist and writer Fay Weldon will be a guest speaker as part of SenseAbility in Corsham on Tuesday 10 June, 7.30pm. SenseAbility’s aim is to explore and focus on inclusion in the arts and local community and features talks from artists and industry professionals, short films, a symposium and workshops. All events are free to attend. Fay will be talking with neuropsychologist Dr. Alison Lee about her experience of ageing and the impact on her approach to writing.

Multi award-winning broadcaster and host of BBC Radio 4’s ‘In Touch’, Peter White MBE will talk about inclusion in broadcasting and his own career giving insights into a life in radio on Friday 13 June, 7.30pm. The talk will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.

A Sensory Photography Workshop will take place on Tuesday 10 June from 10am – 3pm. Join The Pound’s resident artist Penney Ellis and documentary film-maker Tanvir Bush to explore new ways of taking digital photographs using different senses. Aimed at blind and visually impaired participants and open to all, no photography experience is required.

We’re also on the lookout for short film-making fanatics! ScreenAbility is a competition to have your work premiered at The Pound. Your film can take any form – drama, documentary, news review, animation, music video. There are just two rules: the film must touch on issues of inclusion or exclusion and must be no longer then 5 minutes. Submit your film to The Pound’s box office by Monday 9 June. Come and see the shortlisted entries on Friday 13 June, 6pm at The Pound.

Following on from viewing the film shortlisters, we will be showing Two Pixar Shorts with a twist: watch these brilliant mini-stories as you might if you were partially sighted, wearing ‘simul-specs’ and listening to the audio description soundtrack.

There’s plenty of visual arts to enjoy throughout SenseAbility. Dreaming the Silence is an installation which fuses critical, intuitive and creative responses to hearing loss and tinnitus.
Artist Clare Tigoglu exhibits photographs of her artistic response to prosthesis in Prosthetica.

SenseAbility runs from Monday 9 – Saturday 14 June ahead of the Corsham Summer Festival (Thursday 19 - Sunday 22 June). All tickets are free but please book through the box office on 01249 701628. We aim to make these events as inclusive and accessible as possible; please do let us know of any access requirements when booking your tickets.

All SenseAbility events will take place at The Pound arts centre, Pound Pill, Corsham, SN13 9HX.
