Iain Ballamy (saxophone) & Stian Carstensen (accordion)

"Warm and craftily lyrical." The Guardian

“With their sheer virtuosity and sense of joy you feel like a kid about to step onto a twinkling, old-fashioned merry-go-round.” BBC

The resonance of button accordion and tenor saxophone is a rare, rich and beautiful sonority. In the hands of these two internationally renowned musicians it is a combination capable of a great range of moods and textures, at times showing great dexterity and alternately a full and rich resonance seemingly far larger than the sum of its parts.

Iain Ballamy and Stian Carstensen have delved into the musical memories of local young and old to inspire new songs and re-imagine local favourites. Like a live, special jukebox, these new and reworked songs sit within a rich musical programme, ranging from classic jazz standards to children’s songs, all performed with Little Radio’s unique flair and wit.

UK saxophonist and composer Iain Ballamy is internationally recognised as an original and lyrical musician who is renowned as one of the leading international figures of today’s world jazz scene. Norwegian Stian Carstensen is a true multi-instrumentalist, delighting audiences worldwide with his own projects and with the late, great saxophonist Michael Brecker and inimitable group Farmers Market.

"Ballamy is one of Europe's finest jazz saxophonists and Carstensen a multi-instrumentalist who is also an accordion virtuoso” The Observer
